A Very Good Empire Period Secretaire a' Abattant in Figured Mahogany, France Circa 1815
The richly figured mahogany case showing a fossilized black marble top over a single flush mounted drawer, the drop-down panel fronting an interior compartment housing small drawers and a gilt tooled leather writing surface, surmounting three tiers of graduated drawers retaining their original gilt bronze pulls and escutcheons, sided by richly figured columns decorated with chiselled gilt bronze mounts. In very good overall condition and exhibiting exceptional colour & graining, as noted in the striking use of matching flame-figured mahogany on the three drawer-fronts & drop-down panel. The drop-front panel retaining its original & functioning lock mechanism & key. Dimensions, 56” high x 38” wide x 18.5” deep.
