    ‘Sacred & Profane Love’                                                                                                                  An Exceptional 19th Century Rendering of the Iconic Work by Vecillio Tiziano aka Titian (1485-1576). 

    This sensitive & highly competent monumental work on canvas measures 43" high x 109" wide (canvas only), set within an exceptionally fine, carved & water-gilded frame measuring a remarkable 5 feet high x 10 feet in length.                                                                                                                  The original work painted in 1516 hangs in the Borghese Gallery in Rome and is considered by scholars to be Titians most celebrated work.

    Provenance: Purchased directly from the Estate of Mrs. Harriot Rive, Ottawa.

    Harriot Rive (nee) Hopkinson (1904-2005) was the daughter of noted American artist Charles Hopkinson of Boston Massachusetts and wife of former Canadian Ambassador Alfred Rive (1898-1970)
