An Exceptionally Fine & Large Hand Embroidered Chinese Matrimonial 'Double Happiness' Silk Panel, Circa 1900

 

The navy-blue silk field richly decorated with hand-stitched gold, silver & coloured silk threads illustrating auspicious symbols & images of phoenix, clouds, peonies, pairs of lovebirds, etc., denoting blessings of longevity, prosperity, blissfulness, romance, etc., set against a background of flowering vines.

Set within a very good hardwood frame, fronted by a glazed panel.

Framed Dimensions, 82" wide x 21.75" high x 1.5" deep.  Sight Dimensions, 79" wide x 18.5" high.

 

(As observed, the silk panel appears to be folded within the frame, suggesting that it may in fact exceed the stated sight dimensions).
