William Edwin Atkinson studied art under well- known Canadian artists Robert Harris and John Fraser at the Ontario School of Art from 1880-83, then in Philadelphia with American artist Thomas Eakins, from there he travelled to Pairs where he studied under William-Adolphe Bouguereau & Gabriel Ferrier at the Julian Academy. He was a member of the Ontario Society of Artists from1892-1907 and exhibited with the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts from 1893-1923
