A Very Good 19th Century Sorrento Marquetry Jewellery Box / Trinket Box, Italy Circa 1880

A very charming 19th century Sorrento marquetry jewelry box or trinket box, the hinged lid illustrating a marquetry vignette depicting a young peasant couple - the young man shown seated while daydreaming, the young woman standing next to him spinning wool with a spindle and distaff. The plain interior retaining what appears to be its original lock mechanism, the underside of the base lined in old green baize. This could also function as a very handsome cigar box. Dimensions, 4” high x 11” wide x 7.5” deep.
