Antique Burmese Lacquered Betel Box or Kun-it, Circa 1900
The striking vermillion lacquered cylindrical body decorated overall with repeating bands of curvilinear geometric motifs, the cover lifting to reveal a conforming interior compartment housing both its original trays used to hold betel leaves along with ingredients used for making betel quid which is an indigenous form of chewing tobacco. In very good overall condition with only a few minor losses and shrinkage cracks. H 9.5 in. x Dm 10.5 in.
