An Exceptional Pair of Old Paris Porcelain Campagna Vases, France Circa 1830

  • An Exceptional Pair of Old Paris Porcelain Campagna Vases, France Circa 1830

A large & striking pair of early 19th century parcel gilt porcelain campagna vases, both decorated with gilt stencilled neoclassical themes against a matte cobalt blue ground. The burnished gilt base & open handles showing molded masks depicting the Roman god Janus, raised overall upon socle stems atop faux marbleized porcelain bases.

(These vases are relatively scarce in that 'matte blue' was rarely used as a means of decoration, due to the difficulty in its application & stability).
