An Early 20th Century Sterling Silver Vesta Case in the Form of a Devil’s Head, Circa 1900
The sterling silver devil’s face showing an expressive sardonic grin and eyes inset with red stones. The crown of the head opening on a sprung mechanism activated by depressing a button on the nose, with an interior intended to hold safety matches. The underside of the base showing a serrated strike-groove with impressed 925 sterling silver marks. Weight, 39 grams. Measuring (as illustrated), 1.5/8” high x 1.5” wide x .7/8” deep.
