    A fine & exceptionally large centre bowl / fruit bowl in silverplate exhibiting a fine hand planished surface overall, rising to an everted rim with a gadrooned edge atop a circular foot. The underside bearing impressed makers marks for noted Canadian silversmith William Maurice Carmichael, (working 1920-1954). Dimensions, 5” high x 12” diameter.

    William Maurice Carmichael (1892-1954) studied at the Slade School of Fine Art in London, but was chiefly self taught and was greatly influenced by the works of the Guild of Handicraft in London. Carmichael received several commissions, including The Thunderbird & Whale Bowl which was presented to King George V on behalf of the British Columbia Government.

    Examples of William Maurice Carmichaels work are relatively rare, and are held in private collections & museums, including The British Columbia Museum.
