  • An 18th Century Ebonized Ladderback Writing Chair, New England Circa 1750

     

    The ebonized maple frame showing four tiers of arched horizontal splats braced by turned columnar rear stile supports terminating to turned finials. The woven ‘split’ hickory trapezoidal seat sided by a spatulate shaped writing panel on one side, and a scrolled armrest with a drilled grip on the opposing, both raised on turned front stile supports braced by a pair of robust turned stretchers. The rear stile supports showing turned bar stretchers, repeated on both sides affixed to the front stile supports. In very good condition & exhibiting an old untouched surface & patina overall, noting areas of wear consistent with its 270 years of age & use. The writing panel
    showing a later metal brace, with partial loss to the crest of one splat.
    Dimensions, 45” high x 24” wide x 16” deep (seat height 15”).
