A Very Good Regency Period Anglo-Irish Glass Magnum Decanter, Circa 1825
A Very Good Regency Period Anglo-Irish Glass Magnum Decanter, Circa 1825
The greyish glass body showing a mitre-cut double ringed neck over broad flutes, the shoulders banded with diamond cut motifs and mitre-cut rings over a band of cross-cut hobnail motifs, the base with a running band of deep vertical flutes. The underside of the base showing a star-cut motif. Retains its original mushroom stopper, having a few nicks & flakes to the base of the stem consistent with its age & use.
Given that this fine decanter holds somewhat less than 2 full bottles, it would suggest that its primary use was for Port, which when properly decanted & separated from its sediment then renders less volume than a full bottle.
