A Very Good Pair of Japanese Enameled Porcelain Cabinet Plates, Meiji Period (1868-1912)
Both plates richly decorated in the Chinese taste, their central fields showing finely executed hand painted vignettes of figures in garden landscapes, framed within a panelled border decorated by hand with a striking palette of enamels and gilt depicting birds of paradise, butterflies and floral motifs, radiating out to octagonal shaped wavy rims trimmed with russet and gilt accents. The undersides of both plates showing blue underglaze marks. Diameter, 12.25”
