A Very Good Antique Persian Gabbeh Soumak Long Rug, Circa 1900

 

This fine antique flatweave long rug shows a striking rectangular terracotta field decorated with rows of geometric motifs within squared & castellated panels, framed within alternating dark brown & ivory guard borders with repeating cross shaped motifs. All within a main border of multicoloured angular motifs against a cream band, framed by a double outer guard border showing sawtooth motifs against an indigo & terracotta field, and one of aubergine & orange, stopped at both ends with plaited panels & fringes.
