A Very Good 20th Century Bronze Head of Zeus After the Antique, Continental Circa 1920

 

The finely sculpted & patinated bronze head of Zeus, modelled with pierced eyes and finely rendered hair ringed by an olive branch wreath known as a Kotinos, which were awarded to victorious athletes in the Olympic games. Exhibiting fine proportions and a verdigris patina overall, mounted upon an ebonized later plinth base. The head measures 9.5” high. Overall dimensions, 14.5" high x 7" wide x 6.75" deep. Weighing, 9.75 lbs.
