A Very Good 18th Century Venetian Capriccio of Ruins & Figures, Signed Guardi
The foreground showing figures walking among the ruins of a triumphal arch, beyond are sailing vessels on the Venetian Lagoon, on the far shoreline is a view of La Torre di Malghera (Tower of Malghera). Oil on canvas laid down on a wood panel. Signed / strengthened Guardi in red, bottom right. Set within a very fine, albeit currently distressed 18th century carved & water gilded Italian frame. Dimensions, (framed) 17.75” high x 15.75” wide x 2.25” deep.
(This capriccio is most likely part of a larger work as evidenced in the manner the canvas has been cut & affixed to the later wood panel).
