A Very Fine 19th Century Sterling Silver Christening Cup by Edward & James Barnard, London 1866

 

The elegant goblet-shaped bowl decorated with Greek Key motifs and featuring a superb foliate cast handle, the interior exhibiting a richly gilded surface. The exterior with an engraved monogram and impressed London hallmarks with date letter for 1866 and maker’s marks for Edward & James Barnard.

Measuring 5” high and weighing an impressive 162 grams or 5.2 troy ounces.

 

The origins of the esteemed firm of Edward Barnard & Sons date back to 1680 and are believed to be the oldest silversmith firm in history.
