A Very Fine 19th Century Danish Silver Cream Jug & Sugar Bowl by Simon Groth, Copenhagen 1900
Both (.826 fine) silver bodies banded with neoclassical motifs against a stippled field interspersed by a blank crescent-shaped cartouche. The sugar bowl sided by finely cast lions masks with rings on either side - the cream jug affixed with a neoclassical inspired kylix handle terminating to a palmette motif. Both bearing marks to their exteriors & undersides noting town & date marks for Copenhagen1890, assay marks for Assay Master Simon Groth (working 1863-1904) and partially rubbed marks for C. Holm (1893-1937). Combined weight of 16.81 troy ounces.
Simon Groth worked as Assay Master for Dragsted Jewellers & Silversmiths of Copenhagen who were established in 1854 and listed among its Royal Commissions the Royal Court of Copenhagen and the Imperial Court of Russia.Please contact us by either phone at
