    A rare pair of George I Britannia Standard Silver (.958 fine) Hanoverian ‘Rat-Tail’ tablespoons, hallmarked London with date marks for 1719, maker’s marks rubbed. Combined weight, 115.6 grams. Length, 7.75”.  

    (Britannia Standard Silver has a silver content of .958 parts pure silver, greater than that of sterling silver which has a silver content of .925 parts fine. The Britannia Standard was put into effect in by an Act of British Parliament in 1697 and lasted until 1720 as part of the re-coining effort put into place by William III).
