A Post-Modern Abstract Brass Sculpture Attributed to Klara Sever
A Post Modern abstract figural brass sculpture cast in the form of a woman's face in profile. Apparently unsigned, but easily attributable to Czechoslovakian born sculptor, Klara Sever.
Note: Brass castings by Klara Sever are extremely scarce in the current market, as most if not all are cast in composite / synthetic materials or plaster. In very good overall condition and exhibiting a fine patina overall.
Dimensions 13.75” high x 10” wide x 6.5” deep.
Klara Sever was born in 1935 in Slovakia and later attended the Academy of Fine Arts & Design in Bratislava. After graduating she had difficulty finding work as a sculptor but eventually found employment restoring castles in Czechoslovakia. After five years of doing restoration, she finally received her degree in art history from Comenius University. During the Warsaw Pact invasion of 1968, she began working with the underground resistance as a reporter preparing radio broadcasts. The following year in 1969, both she and her husband managed to escape from Czechoslovakia to New York City, where she found work reproducing sculptures for various foundries. She then later moved to Washington DC where she continued working as a sculptor and started her own factory.
