A Monumental 19th C. Japanese ‘Ryukyu Hariko’ Vase, Meiji Period (1868-1912)
A stunningly attractive & exceptionally large baluster shaped ‘Ryukyu Hariko’ (papier mâché) vase, decorated overall with hand painted images of a fruiting peach tree rendered in a palette of vermilion, russet & gilt against an ebonized ground. A very fine example of Japanese lacquer-work, remaining in extremely good overall condition with a minimum of surface wear and only minor loss.
