A Huanghuali Framed Group of Five Chinese Marble Scholar’s Stones, Late Qing Period
Sometimes referred to as ‘paintings’ or ‘dream stones’, these stones are Dali marble quarried from the Cangshan mountain range in Western China, carefully chosen & hewn to expose their unique russet, black & grey striations that evoke ethereal, misty mountainous landscapes & clouds.
The Chinese refer to these striations as ‘moss entangled in melting snow’.
Measuring, 42” high x 10.5” wide.
(Huanghuali or “yellow flowering pear” is a rare & treasured species of rosewood indigenous to China).
