A Fine Grand Tour Bronze Bust of a Greek Philosopher, After Mathurin Moreau
This finely cast Hellenistic-style bronze bust appears to be that of the Greek philosopher Chrysippus of Soli - regarded by scholars as the 2nd founder of the School of Stoicism.
Shown draped in classical robes atop a waisted socle affixed to a squared base, the reverse bearing an impressed signature for Mathurin Moreau (1822-1912) together with impressed numerals 1709. Height, 13.5”.
In very good condition and exhibiting a fine old medium brown patina overall, with minor rubbing to the nose.
