A 20th C. Architectural Wooden Model of a Renaissance Baptistry / Church, Circa 1950
This finely rendered octagonal sided wooden model of a Renaissance Baptistry, showing distinctive Islamic influences as observed in the eight Mehrab shaped arches of the octagonal rotunda, one being a hinged door. Dimensions, 24.75” high x 10.25” wide x 10.25” deep.
Many Italian architects from the Renaissance Period, including Florentine architect Filippo Brunelleschi (1377-1446) who designed the Duomo, were greatly influenced by Islamic sources, such as the Mausoleum of Oljeitu. Ref: ‘Islamic Influences in Florence’.
