  • A 19th Century Mandalay Brass Bound Teak Campaign Dressing Box, Burma Circa 1860

     

    These boxes were made for British military officers who were posted in Burma & India during the days of British rule. The brass bound teak case is profusely inlaid with brass filigree stringing and retains its original forged iron carrying handles & lock mechanism. The hinged lid opening to reveal an interior housing a small folding shaving mirror above a recessed compartment and flanked on either side by lidded compartments – one with a ‘secret drawer’.    The interior of the lid centred by a small, framed mirror and glass panelled compartments used to hold mementos of loved ones i.e. locks of hair, fabric, flower petals etc., fronted by a carved & pierced letter rack. Dimensions, 9.5” high x 20.5” wide x 13.25” deep.

    This example is in as found original condition, exhibiting an old, weathered surface & patina.
